JUST STOP, FUCKING STOP BEING PROGRESSIVE AND SHIT, PORSCHE.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

FRANKFURT, Germany — !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! has indicated that it is unlikely to develop another manual gearbox for the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

Speaking at a technical presentation for the face-lifted version of the 991 series 911, Thomas Brandl, the engineer responsible for the new engine range, admitted it would be difficult to build a business case for a new manual transmission.

“As long as the gearbox exists, we will use it,” Brandl told Edmunds , “but it would be very difficult to justify the investment needed to develop a new gearbox when little more than 10 percent of buyers choose it.”

He conceded that these customers “continue to want the experience of driving a manual 911,” but that the added sophistication of the alternative PDK gearbox provides “considerable advantages in terms of efficiency.”

Given that the manual gearbox has been engineered to work with the new 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine, it’s not quite in its death throes just yet. These engines will be carried forward into the next-generation 911, due around 2018, which should be on sale until at least 2025.

Damn you modern car market, damn you government, and damn my internal clock timing and timing in general, ruining everything with your time moving forward shit! -_-

So now not only will the N/A market go to hell, the N/A and turbo manual market will go bonkers!! (-___-)

The answer is, as stated above, about 1 out of 10 cars they sell.

At least you admit they’re being progressive.

I, for one, welcome our new PDK overlords.

Mostly because the manual cars will always be there. Especially with all the speculators preserving their “investment”. And by the time we can afford them, all the speculators will be dead and the prices will be back to normal-ish. If not, you can get the nicest 944 ever made.

By the time we can afford them gas prices will be astronomical or we won’t be driving at all.

Damn, if that’s true, that blows big time. The turbos don’t bother me as much, but the lack of a manual sucks big time. It sucked when Ferrari did it, but it honestly probably made more sense in their case. I would think that while stick 911’s are still a minority, there’d be enough to keep it alive. I guess not.

Oh well, at least they still have the Cayman. They’ll still do a stick for that I’m sure.

Ehh, I’d like to think they will. I don’t have numbers to back this up so I may be wrong, but I’d imagine they still sell a reasonable amount of manual Caymans... (Boxsters may be different...)

I think the GT4 and Boxster Spyder was almost an admission from Porsche that the smaller platforms are the better drivers’ cars and I’d be willing to bet they have sales figures to prove that a manual box in each of those models is still marketable and sellable.

Probably reserve it for super limited production cars us peasants won’t be able to ever get our hands on...

We’ve got...quite a lot of time until manual 911s go away. At least according to your article:

What I can tell you from experience is that the first few years of experiencing time passing as an adult feel like they’re going really fast, but that time doesn’t keep speeding up every year. So you kinda get used to the faster progression.

Also, modern cars are still in pretty good shape 10 years into their life, as long as they’re well cared for. Hell, my ’05 Grand Cherokee, with its supposedly miserable mid-’00s Chrysler build quality, is overall pretty solid. Yeah I have to put money into it to maintain it, but hey it was only 10 grand.

As much as you don’t want to hear this I’m sure, I’d bet if they did end up killing the manual, it’d be gone for good, a la Ferrari. That said, they’re playing to a different market (especially with the Boxster and Cayman) so the things they take into consideration will be different. All we can do is hope at this point, haha

No, what I'm saying is that I think Boxster and Cayman will keep the manual. What I AM saying is that IF (big if) Porsche decides to kill all manuals, then there will definitely be no more. You mentioned something about them being offered in a limited production car, but I doubt that. If they're done, they're done. But I think the likelihood of that event is small.
